iPad: The Retina Display

The new display is a Retina display, which means that viewed from a distance of 15 inches, individual pixels on the new iPad's display aren't distinguishable to the human eye.

Resolution on the display is 2048 x 1536, or 3.1 million pixels, so it packs 264 pixels per inch. That's sharper than even an HD television, given the difference in sizes between the two. The display is similar to that on the iPhone 4S, which, in our tests, proved to be among the brightest and sharpest among smart phones (for more details, see our free buying guides and our Ratings, available to subscribers). The iPhone 4S, however, delivers 326 pixels per inch.
